On the evening of August 12, 2025, my Allsky camera (setup to capture the Aurora at our cabin) caught something very unusual. The 4 images below, timestamped by the camera, are of a fairly slow moving object. Each exposure is 1 minute long, starting at just a point and progressively getting larger & brighter in each shot.
Some basic calculations says it was travelling between 1,500 & 2,000 Kph, emanated out of Constellation Virgo and travelled in a generally NE direction, right under the Big Dipper (Ursa Major). A bit of digging found it was a piece of Space Junk formerly known as Starlink-3275, NORAD Launch ID 50188. Launched on Dec. 18, 2021 from AFWTR.
Note: Image timestamps are for time zone AST. Add 3 hours to get UTC.
